The Geography Department maintains an advising office staffed by the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Joseph M. Cirrincione and graduate student advisors. The advising office staff can help you decide if one of the specializations in Geography is right for you. They also advise Geography majors every semester regarding coursework requirements, internships and career opportunities. The advising office is open for walk-in advising five days a week although the hours vary from semester to semester (see below for current schedule). The office is located in 2108 LeFrak Hall. The advising office also holds a career/internship fair each semester in conjunction with the University of Maryland Career Center.

Ronald Luna and Jennifer Pomeroy are the current graduate students who staff the Geography Advising Office. They will be happy to answer your questions regarding the two specializations (Geography and GIS) as well as the Minor in GIS offered in the Geography Department. We offer students a two tiered advising system: (1) curriculum advising in the Geography Advising Office and (2) faculty mentoring with an assigned faculty member. For more information about the advising system, read up on the Geography Advising Guidelines or check with the advisors in the Advising Office. Before you meet with a faculty mentor, be sure to download and fill out the faculty mentoring form.
