The
Geography Honors Program
The Geography Department sponsors an honors program that allows undergraduates to work closely with a faculty mentor on independent research. This gives students the opportunity to become involved in hands-on research which would provide career experience or prepare students for graduate school.
There
is a chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, the national geography honorary fraternity,
on campus. This group provides a social nucleus for geography majors,
holding regular meetings, inviting speakers, helping to plan the career
day, participating in field trips, parties and fund raising activities.
Members of GTU also work as peer advisors. The fraternity uses 1111B
Lefrak Hall as a base of operations. GTU works in conjunction with
the Geography Club, an informal group that provides a forum for Geography
students to socialize with other undergraduates, graduates and faculty.
The
activities of the GTU and Geography Club culminate with an end-of-the-semester
party to celebrate undergraduate and graduate achievements.
