- The « Centre de Teledetection et de Cartographie
Forestiere » (CETELCAF) of the Office National de Developpement des
Forets (ONADEF) is the key Remote Sensing and GIS institution in Cameroon.
For a long time, this center has been involved in international programs
(i.e. direct partner of the FAO-FRA program, the Landsat PATHFINDER
program, the TREES project, ...).

One of the major activities of the CETELCAF has been the
multi-resources inventory of the forest zone and the production of vegetation
and land use maps based on satellite data interpretation. This project,
partly funded by the « Agence Canadienne de Developpement International
» (ACDI), has led to the production of stratification maps of the
forest zone of Cameroon at the 1 : 500,000 scale. Occasionally, the CETELCAF
updates the topographic maps of Cameroon in collaboration with the «
Institut National de Cartographie » (INC) and is in charge of updating
the vegetation maps and producing a database of the logging concessions
(1994). The CETELCAF is currently the team leader for the preparation of
the REIMP project in Cameroon.

Staring Centre, NL)
- ACDI project in the Ebolowa region (supported by TECSULT,
CN)
- CIRAD project in the Dimako area (supported by CIRAD,
FR)
- Since 1993, the University
of Louvain, Remote Sensing Laboratory of the Department of Geography ,
has been studying forest changes in the Bertoua region. The project is
co-funded by the Belgian Government and the FAO (under the TFA project).
Its main objective is to map vegetation cover at different periods, to
study the driving forces of land-cover and land-use changes and to model
deforestation. This exercice involves the use of remote sensing data (Landsat,
SPOT, aerial surveys) and numerous field surveys.
- Others : Various activities are currently using remote
sensing data in Cameroon. The use of SPOT data for road rehabilitation
is among them (Road Bertoua - Gaorua, TRACTEBEL SA).
