Description:

The aim of this course is to understand the main processes which result in the present-day climate, its geographic variation, and to understand how it is affected by human activity. We will first learn about the basic processes in the atmosphere and at the Earth’s surface. This will include (i) radiation and the surface energy budget, (ii) the water cycle and (iii) atmospheric dynamics. With this understanding we will approach (iv) the present-day climate and explain its variation. In the final part of this course (v) we will apply our understanding to topics of Global Change, such as Amazonian deforestation, air pollution, and global warming.
