Where lies the core of the discipline?
Let’s worry about the core rather than the boundaries.
The basic distinctions of Kant are impossible to deny
- The chorological discipline of geography and the chronological discipline of history, as distinct from the systematic sciences.
- Does this mean that in a sense everything is geographical?
- Not more so, than it is useful to regard everything as history.
- But just as geologists study historical geology and that’s not history, so we will expect other disciplines to be chorological without this marginalizing our subject.
