Course Objectives


A geographic information system (GIS) includes a spatial database and a set of cartographic and analysis tools. This advanced course introduces the concepts and the practical skills that are required to design, implement and use spatial databases. The format of this course will consist of lectures, lab exercises and a course project. By the end of the semester, students will learn how to: 1) design and create spatial databases in GIS context; 2) manage and query spatial databases; and 3) deliver geospatial data on the Web. Oracle, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Desktop will be used in this course.
