Faculty in the Department of Geography are at the forefront of the discipline's future with projects that literally encompass the whole Earth. By dissolving the boundary between social and physical science we are exploring the human dimensions of global change. Our goal is to better understand the Earth's land surface and the way humans interact with it.

Low-cost Remote Sensing
In this project airborne multispectral imaging is being assessed for applications in agriculture.
MODIS Rapid Response
The Web Fire Mapper displays interactive maps incorporating fire detection points data. Users can identify attributes over time spans and query information for individual points.
National Forest
This study examines the socio-economic and political context of the Jefferson National Forest, and the role of stakeholders and of the public in decision-making.
Data Assimilation System
We are reformulating the analysis of EOS data in this project by developing a prototype data assimilation system to generate an improved suite of land products from multiple EOS data sets.
