University of Maryland Geography Department is a world leader in earth observation science and disciplines concerned with understanding the physical, biological, and human dimensions of Earth Systems Science. The Department has been very successful in attracting research grants and now earns approximately 10% of the total University of Maryland research grant income. This research environment provides unique opportunities for involvement of students in high-visibility research projects as well as significantly enhanced mentoring and guidance from the large research faculty. Many graduates gain employment as a direct result of this interaction.
