Prototype Study

The NAFD project began in 2003 with a protype study, focused in the US Mid-Atlantic region that explored the potential for combining time-series Landsat observations with FIA data to evaluate North American disturbance and regrowth rates. Initially we focused on learning how to construct Landsat . By stacking annual or biennial Landsat images, individual pixels could be analyzed as spectral time series and disturbance and regrowth history of any given location was tracked in detail. Considerable time was also spent examining FIA data and how it could be used for validation of the Landsat observations.
