Six High-Level Delegates from the Chinese Embassy Visit the Department

On Friday, January 25th, six high-level delegates from the Chinese Embassy visited the Geography Department to speak to members of our Department regarding ways to enhance scientific collaboration and cooperation with Chinese institutions.

Arranged and organized by Faculty Research Assistants Mengxue Li and Jacqui Ignatova, the delegates received a tour of the Department’s facilities, enjoyed a “College Park-style” Chinese buffet, and attended presentations by Professor John Townshend, FRA Inbal Becker-Reshef, Professor Eric Kasischke, FRA Alice Altstatt, Faculty Research Scientist Guoqing Sun, Assistant Professor Naijun Zhou and FRA Paul Davis, and Minister-Counselor Jin Ju.

The presentations centered around the research of our Department, highlighting in particular the Geography Department’s work towards sharing of data and satellite information globally. Over forty people attended and the delegates left “very impressed” with what our Department has to offer.
