Didier Devers of the Department of Geography will be presenting the first paper at the International Conference on the Sustainable Management of the Forests in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (ConForDRC) at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, Belgium on the 27th February. The meeting will be opened by His Royal Highness Prince Philipe of Belgium. The International Conference on Sustainable Management of the Forests in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is part of broader efforts of the international community at combating poverty in the region.
Political decision makers, scientists, representatives of the private sector, and representatives of non-governmental organizations will be attending the conference. Its main purpose is to raise awareness among the Belgian, Congolese and international partners in the cause of sustainable management of the forests. Didier's paper will be based on his extensive work in the region. He has been based in Kinshasa for several years. Recently "The Forests of the Congo Basin: State of the Forest 2006" was published, whose coordination and editing was led by Didier.
