Introducing Dr. Emilio Chuvieco
|
Dr. Emilio Chuvieco, a professor of Geography at the University of Alcala in Spain will be visiting the Department for the next six months, as the second half of his sabbatical year. Dr. Chuvieco is a leading authority on fire and remote sensing in Mediterranean ecosystems.
His research interests focus on remote sensing of environmental processes, with special emphasis on fire related issues. Dr. Chuvieco has been the principal investigator of several European and national projects focused on estimation of fuel moisture content, fuel type mapping (optical and lidar sensors), fire risk assessment, and post-fire effects (burned land mapping and burn severity discrimination). Dr. Chuvieco will be collaborating with colleagues in the Department on global processes associated with wildland fires, with a focus on fire occurrence as a result of human factors, the effects of global climate change on future fire scenarios and effects of fire on land use and atmospheric changes.
