Frequently cited faculty

Citations in journal articles to scientific papers are one important way of assessing impact.  The ISI Web of Knowledge provides the most authoritative list of citations.  It's pretty conservative in the way it operates.  Basically it only counts citations in good journals of articles published in good journals.

Recently Chris Justice has been included in the ISI Web of Knowledge Highly Cited List, which claims to provide "comprehensive information about the most significant scientists and scholars publishing today."  He joins Adjunct Jim Tucker on that exclusive list.

Chris's h factor (the number of articles with at least that number of citations) is now 41.  One other faculty has an h factor of over 30 and three are over 20.  For four others their h factors are in double figures.

h factors inevitably tend to favor those who have been longest in the business, so it's worth noting that in the current calendar year the faculty member with the most citations is Eric Vermote with a staggering 666 so far with over a month to go.

Eric's growing impact can be gauged by the strongly upwardly concave number of citations to his work in recent years.
