Department Has Record Year for Research Funding

Departmental Funding
Increased Funding

The department received $8.7M in research funding for the fiscal year that ended June 06. This figure includes funding for new projects and continuation funding for preexisting projects. For the past six years, research funding has averaged $5.7M per year, $3M less.

The increase is due, in part, to the new funding received by some members of the department's research faculty, Drs. Ivan Csiszar ($300,000), Michelle Hofton ($43,550), Stefonia Korontzi ($465,000),Guoqing Sun ($119,400), Simon Trigg ($95,300), Eric Vermote ($70,000) and Ms. Diane Davies ($389,000).

Many of these projects will receive incremental funding during the next two years as well. The increase is also due, in part, to the continued success that the department graduate students have achieved in obtaining and retaining non-university fellowships ($168,000) and the continued success of the teaching faculty who received new project funding during the year of approximately $1.3M. The successful teaching faculty who received new projects are Drs. Catherine Dibble, Samuel Goward, Christopher Justice and Stephen Prince.
