Chris Justice has co-edited a special edition of Remote Sensing of Environment with John Qu of George Mason University on the Application of Remote Sensing to Fire research in the easter United States.

The special edition contains articles authored by other members of the Department, namely Jessica McCarty (Faculty Research Assistant), Stepfania Korontzi, Assistant Research Scientist and Ivan Csiszar (Associate Research Scientist).

The increasing amount of forest cover in the eastern United States and its vulnerability to fire was the prime motivation for the research, though agricultural fires are also of increasing significance in this region.
