Department of Geography Chair John Townshend has been appointed as dean of the University of Maryland College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, effective July 27, 2009.

As Dean, he will be setting up a search committee for a new chair of Geography.  Pending approval of the Provost, Dr. Samuel Goward has indicated a willingness to serve as interim char on or after July 27.   Dr. Goward was Departmental Chair from 1995 - 2001.
