Prince, Safriel and Reshef attend United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification Conference

Drs. Stephen Prince and Uriel Safriel and Inbal Reshef attended the Jacob Blaustein Institutes and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification – Annex IV nations conference on Deserts and Desertification held in Sede Boqer, near Beer Sheva in Israel, 6-9 November. Professor Safriel, currently on three-year sabbatical in the Geography Department and National UNCCD Focal Point for Israel, past Director of the Blaustein Institute, and a world leader in desertification research and mitigation, chaired the international advisory committee. Prof. Safriel delivered two major speeches. Dr. Prince convened a session on remote sensing technologies and delivered papers on global mapping of desertification and on multiple stable states in desertified ecosystems. Inbal Reshef contributed an overview of the USAID-sponsored research on global agricultural monitoring, a project led by Dr. Justice in which she is a research assistant.
