Snapshot

The Snapshot program will allow the user to capture anything displayed in a window and convert that display into an image.

  1. The Snapshot utility is available off the DASH-board from the following location:
    Utilities>Xview>snapshot
To activate the utility, release the mouse button over the word snapshot. A new window titled "Snapshot V3" will pop up on the screen.
  2. There are very few options for snapping an image. The user has three choices for area of capture, and then only one consistently successful way of saving.

    TO SNAP:

    a. Choose one of the "Window", "Region", or "Screen" options for area.
-the "Window" option will require you to press the "Snap" button once, and to click the left mouse button once on a single window.
-the "Region" option will require you to press the "Snap" button once, and to create a rectangle to outline the area of capture, using the left mouse button, and then clicking once inside the rectangle with the middle mouse button.
-the "Screen" option will require you to press the "Snap" button once.

    b. If the snapping worked, a message will appear in the lower left of the snapshot box which says "Snap succeeded". To see what was snapped, press the "View" button.

    c. If the user does not want the snapshot window to appear in the snapshot, either move it out of the way, or press the "Hide Window During Capture" button.
  3. To save a snapshot, press the "Save" button and type in a name. The naming convention for snapshot files requires them to have the ".rs" suffix. Please follow this convention. Also, be aware that saving any image file requires substantial space.
  4. To display or print the snapshot file, it is necessary to use the "XV" utility.
  5. To quit out of the Snapshot window, press the right mouse button over the top of the window, and release over the "Quit" option".
