The data stored on this disk is available for the education and research needs of students and staff in the Geography Department at the University of Maryland, College Park. This data may not be used for commercial purposes. This data may not be copied, used, and/or accessed by anyone outside the department without permission from the Geography system administrator. Operations

These data sets are maintained by the UMCP Geography Department technical staff. Queries may be directed to the main office or to the department system administrator. These data are maintained in as close to original format as possible. Occasional extra files have been generated within data sets to assist in cohesion.

Data Origins

Most contents of the /amlwb, /arcatlas, /arcdata, /arcscene, /arcusa, /arcworld, /avdata, /dcmsa, dcw, /esridata, /gtkav, /maplewood, and /maryland directories are copyright to the Environmental Systems Research Institute, Redlands CA (www.esri.com). The /maryutm directory contains the same materials as the /maryland directory with additional projection transformation, and is also ultimately derived from ESRI's ArcUSA product.

The contents of the /dem and /national_atlas directories are derived from programs at the USGS (www.usgs.gov).

Contents of the /soils directory are derived from sources at the USDA's NRCS (www.nrcs.usda.gov)

Materials in the /tiger directory are taken from the US Bureau of the Census (www.census.gov)

The /umcp directory contains materials created at the University of Maryland (www.umd.edu).

The /landcover/lcumd and /poland directories contain data generated at the University of Maryland, Department of Geography (www.geog.umd.edu).
