Q: I've forgotten my password. What should I do?

A: If you have forgeotten your directory password, you can change it online by clicking on the following link:

https://www.directory.umd.edu/password

In order to complete the process online, you will have to answer the three security questions you made and answered when you first set-up your account. You will also have to supply other personal information that will be used to verify your identity for OIT and allow you to change your password.

If you do not recall your responses to the security questions, go to room 1400 in CSS and tell the consultant you want to change your password. During non-rush times, you'll be taken to the Help Desk supervisor, who will perform the function for you, having you choose your own password in an online change command. You will need to supply a picture ID when you do this. Using this method, the change should occur in about 10 minutes, after which you should be able to use your account normally.

During rush times (the first few weeks of the Spring/Fall semesters) OIT may be too busy to do the changes right there, so you'll need to fill out a Password Change form. You'll specify (among other things) the new password you want. You will also need to supply a picture ID when you do this. Once the form is submitted, it'll take one to three working days to get the new password in place, but will probably happen by close of business the following day, if not sooner.
