Q: Why won't my postscript file print?

A: There are several possible reasons why a postscript file might fail to print. The most likely reasons are listed below. If all else fails, recreate the file.

  1. The printer queue often refuses files saved in enhanced postscript. Please be sure that your file is in the basic postscript format before sending it to the printer.
  2. Always preview postscript files in a viewer such as XV or GhostView to ensure that they are not corrupt. If you cannot preview your file, you will not be able to print it.

To preview a file in XV type:

    xv filename

To preview a file in GhostView type:

    gv filename

  3. If you are near your quota limit, you may be running out of room when you try to create a postscript file. Check your quota and delete files if necessary to allow adequate room for the postscript file.
