To print on the Open Laboratory printers, you must go through the following procedure:
- Get a Terrapin Express debit account and a print account.
Get a Terrapin Express debit account, if you don't already have one, and a print account from the Terrapin Express Contract Office, Rm. 1109, South Campus Dining Hall (next to LeFrak Hall). [Terrapin Express debit accounts require a minimum deposit of $20.00 to open. Terrapin Express will accept subsequent deposits of any amount. Payment options include cash, check, or credit.] The account should be ready immediately.
- Transfer funds from your Terrapin Express account to your print account
at
http://bank.umd.edu .
Log in at a computer in the Open Laboratory and launch Netscape. Go to http://bank.umd.edu. Enter your print account number and password when prompted. You can check your account balances and transfer funds from your Terrapin Express Account to your print account at this website. It is recommended that you transfer money into your print account in small increments (one or two dollars at a time).
If you cannot log on, call the aITs Help Desk at (301)405-1500. Before you call, make sure that you are typing your login ID and password correctly.
YOU MUST TRANSFER FUNDS FROM YOUR TERRAPIN EXPRESS ACCOUNT TO YOUR PRINT ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU CAN PRINT. - Printing from a computer
- UNIX: Print using the qpr command, using your print account
and password.
To print, use the qpr command. The syntax for qpr is: qpr [-q printername] [-m cents] [filename]
You will be prompted for your print account and password, for example:
rac3:~: qpr -q geogbw1 -m 10 testfile
Print account? [nothing is shown as you type for security]
Print account password? [nothing is shown as you type for security]This command sent the file called testfile to the geogbw1 printer, with a page limit of 10 cents. If testfile was more than 1 page, the other pages would not have printed out. The cents prompt is for your protection, to prevent loss from print mistakes.
- PC: Print from an application (Generally File->Print), and a window will pop up asking you which printer you want to print to and how many cents you want to spend.
- UNIX: Print using the qpr command, using your print account
and password.
