Education

PhD Geodesy and Geomatics, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, 2005
Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, 2000

Research Interests

  • Global scale applications of low and medium resolution satellite data
  • Remote sensing of burned areas
  • Multitemporal algorithms
  • Validation of low resolution thematic products

The research activity of Dr. Boschetti is mainly focused on the processing of moderate resolution optical data for burned area monitoring at global scale. He is currently part of the team in charge of the development and validation of the MODIS global burned product (http://modis-fire.umd.edu/MCD45A1.asp). In the context of the quality assessment of the MODIS burned area product, he is developing tools for the visualization of thematic remotely sensed datasets in 3D virtual globes.

Before joining the department of Geography at the University of Maryland in April 2005, Dr. Boschetti held research fellowships at the Italian national Research Council (2004-2005) and at the Institute for Environment and Sustainability of the European Commission’s Joint Research Center (2002-2004), and was a visiting scientist at the Natural Resources Institute - University of Greenwich (2000-2002).
