Research Interests
Dr. Cirrincione's research activities are within the field of social sciences education with particular emphasis on geographic education. Major emphasis of research on teachers' perceptions of teacher education and the school curriculum. This research is based on the premise that the classroom teacher is a critical decision maker in the educational process. Their perception concerning teacher education and the school curriculum serve as a critical data base. Teachers' view of geography and social studies content can provide academics and curriculum developers a base for addressing such questions as the potential for implementing material, or the need for particular types of training in content areas. It provides the means for narrowing the gap between the theorist advancing what "ought to be" and the practitioner's view of "what is." Research specific to geographic education has concentrated on the use of conceptual models of instruction in the development of instructional strategies for geographic instruction.
