Education

PhD  Geographic Information Science, University of Wisconsin - Madison, 2005
MS   Computer Sciences, University of Wisconsin - Madison, 2003
MS   GIS, Remote Sensing and Cartography, Beijing University, 1996
BEng   Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping, 1993

Research Interests

  • Geographic Information Science
  • Data Integration
  • Semantics, Web Services
Dr. Zhou’s research interests are the theory and methodology of Geographic Information Science. He studies geographic data integration by examining geospatial semantics and ontology, and investigates how the Web promotes the application of geographic information.

Research Projects

Principle Investigator. Developing a Visual Semantic Query System to Enhance the Search Capability of Geospatial Data Portals. Funding agency: National Science Foundation IIS. 2007-2009.

Co-Investigator. Integration of Water Data Collection and Management Among Local and State Agencies. Funding agencies: Maryland Department of the Environment, U.S. EPA. 2007-2008.

Co-Investigator. Maryland Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. Funding agencies: Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). 2008-2010.
