Landscape Metrics Used to Assess Anthropogenic Influence on Wetlands in the Anacostia Watershed-Paint Branch

Paint Branch & Little Paint Branch Sub-Watersheds

The Paint Branch and Little Paint Branch Watersheds are located in both Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. These watersheds contain both the coastal plain and piedmont physiographic provinces.

These watersheds are dominated by urban and residential land cover classes. Natural areas are mainly restricted to stream riparian areas although not all riparian areas have been preserved.

Although some relatively large wetland patches remain in the lower sections of the Watersheds, most of the Watersheds' wetlands have become fragmented.

The Paint Branch and the Little Paint Branch Watersheds have a combined population density per square mile of 2964 and ~19% impervious surfaces. These watersheds have 2% more impervious surface than the Northwest Branch Watershed but 1,143 fewer people per square mile than the Northwest Branch.
