Land Cover Classification
of the Mid-Atlantic Region
from 1km AVHRR

To date, land cover maps have been inadequate to meet the modeling requirements of the Chesapeake Bay Program. This map of land cover in the Mid-Atlantic region was derived from 1.1 kilometer AVHRR data for 1992-93. Land cover classes include deciduous forest (blue), needleleaf evergreen forest (light green), mixed forest types (light blue), woodland (cyan), croplands (aqua), and urban (dark green).The image is a portion of an entire global land cover map and is comparable to existing land cover maps of the region derived from higher resolution imagery.

The results and data products displayed on these web pages are the intellectual property of the Mid-Atlantic RESAC, consisting of the University of Maryland, Woods Hole Research Center and Shippensburg University.
