Departmental Projects
| The Department’s ultimate research goal is to advance an integrated understanding of the Earth and spatially distributed human processes, especially at the interface between the human and natural systems. Although there is an emphasis on the use of satellite remote sensing within our current research program, the Department aims to establish a balanced portfolio of research, where expertise within specific disciplines contributes to the conceptual development of Geography and promotes active participation in the international community of geographic scholarship. Our research addresses both fundamental and applied issues in natural and social sciences, such as human dimensions of global change, biosphere-atmosphere interactions, shared-resource issues and long-term regional development. |
|
| The Department emphasizes research that is policy relevant. This provides an opportunity to inform important public debates at all levels of government and in society as a whole. Faculty in the Department of Geography are at the forefront of the discipline's future, with projects that literally encompass the whole Earth. By dissolving the boundary between social and physical science we are exploring the human dimensions of global change. Our goal is to better understand the Earth's land surface and the way humans interact with it. | |
