Principal Investigator: Dr. DeFries

This project extends work on the estimation of tropical deforestation rates.  In particular, it is focused on preparatory activities of particular relevance to existing and future participants in the Global Observations of Forest Cover projects (GOFC).  This was developed as part of the Integrated Global Observation Strategy initially sponsored by the Committee on Earth Observing Satellites.  It focuses on the following topics: Improvements in Classification Procedures; Methodology testing in other biomes; Hotspot monitoring; Development of Standardized Procedures for Training Analysts; Landsat 7 Science Team Collaboration; Liaison with the GLCF and development of Data Base procedures.
