TORO .............................................. ...................................................................................... Much of Toro was very lightly settled. The houses and cultivated areas shown here were in a cluster of settlements extending from north of Fort Portal to the southwest. Other clusters of people to the north east of Fort Portal were not examined. A characteristic settlement consisted of one or two houses within or adjacent to a banana grove. Root crops were located nearby. Further south in the Kasese area larger cultivated fields were seen. That area had a copper mine, copper smelter and a rail terminus. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . .
